Andre Kang was born in Taipei, Taiwan and raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. In 1993 he moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico, to earn his telecommunications and photography degrees at the Sacred Heart University.  In 1996 he was awarded an internship at the prestigious Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia (www.endi.com). A year later, he became a staff photographer at the newly launched Primera Hora newspaper (www.primerahora.com) where he currently works and has received numerous awards from the Puerto Rico Photojournalists Association, The Overseas Press Club, and the Puerto Rico Senate Mandin’s Award.

During his nine years at Primera Hora, Kang has traveled abroad, covering a variety of news events such as the FIBA World Basketball Championship (Sapporo-Saitama, Japan 2006), the Pan American Games (Dominican Republic 2003), New York City’s Fashion Week (2003 & 2004), Floyd Mayweather vs. Arturo Gatti WBC Light Welterweight Championship bout (Atlantic City, USA 2005), Major League Baseball All-Star Game (Chicago, USA 2003), Caribbean Baseball Series (Maracay-Valencia, Venezuela 2006), Oscar De La Hoya vs. Fernando Vargas WBC and WBA junior middleweight championships bout (Las Vegas, USA 2002), Ricky Martin’s concert (Mexico 2005), Felix Trinidad vs. Fernando Vargas IBF Jr. Middleweight Championship bout (Las Vegas, USA 2000), an interview with artist Shakira (Buenos Aires, Argentina 2005), Miss Universe Pageant (Trinidad & Tobago 1999), among other.
